Francis Almendàrez: EconoTopographic II - Denim Worker Pants
Francis Almendàrez' (USA) Arbeit verweist anhand von Denim-Jeans sowohl auf menschliche Körper als auch auf topografische 3D-Karten von Gebirgslandschaften, indem sie Parallelen und Verbindungen zwischen Körper als Territorium und Territorium als Land zieht. Blue Jeans als Assoziation mit US-amerikanischer Kultur und der Arbeiterklasse werden als Subjekt und Material mit historischer und zeitgenössischer Produktion von Baumwolle und Indigo in Verbindung gesetzt. Francis Almendarez‘s (USA) work uses denim jeans to reference both human bodies and 3D topographical maps of mountainous terrains, drawing parallels and connections between body as territory and territory as land. Through their associations with Americana and the working-class, denim jeans as subject and material, are relinked to historical and contemporary productions of cotton and indigo. Moreover, as evidenced through their global movement and circulation, their status and privilege as commodities bring into question how value and the right to mobility are assigned.
