ABOUT

ANTHROPOZÄNTA ist ein von Künstler*innen organisiertes Residenz- und Ausstellungsformat zeitgenössischer Kunst, welches sich mit den vielfältigen Erscheinungen, Verbindungen und Konsequenzen nicht-menschlichen und menschlichen Daseins auseinandersetzt. Dabei versteht sich ANTHROPOZÄNTA als offenes Format, welches Diskurs, Begegnung, Vernetzung und Gemeinschaft fördern möchte sowie kostenlos und für die breite Öffentlichkeit zugänglich ist.

Die erste ANTHROPOZÄNTA fand 2013 statt. 60 internationale Künstlerinnen zogen damals in ein leerstehendes Hotel in Helmbrechts ein, um über sechs Wochen hinweg den Stadtraum mit künstlerischen Projekten zu beleben. 2023 feierte ANTHROPOZÄNTA in ähnlicher Form, aber kleinerem Maßstab, in Hof/Saale 10-jähriges Bestehen und wird im Herbst 2024 wieder dort stattfinden. Organisationsteam und künstlerische Leitung sind Sophie Innmann und Daniel Vollmond, die beide in der Region aufgewachsen sind.

Mit der Ausstellung wollen Innmann und Vollmond die spannende und bewegte Geschichte der Stadt in den Fokus rücken und so einen Beitrag zur kulturellen Landschaft der Region leisten. Durch das Einladen von nicht ortsansässigen, internationalen Künstlerinnen, die ortsbezogene Arbeiten entwickeln, können die Anwohner*innen ihr Zuhause aus einer anderen, möglicherweise neuen oder ungewohnten Perspektive betrachten und auswärtige Personen die Region ganz neu kennen und schätzen lernen.

Ziel ist auch dieses Mal, eines der zahlreichen leerstehenden Gebäude in der Innenstadt temporär mit multimedialen künstlerischen Arbeiten sowie Veranstaltungen wie Workshops, Vorträgen und Diskussionsrunden zu beleben.

ANTHROPOZÄNTA is an artist-run residency and exhibition format for contemporary art that showcases the manifold appearances, connections and consequences of both human and non-human existence. As an open format, ANTHROPOZÄNTA aims to promote discourse, encounters, and community. It is free of charge and accessible to the general public.

The first ANTHROPOZÄNTA took place in 2013. Back then, 60 international artists moved into a vacant hotel in Helmbrechts to enliven the urban space with artistic projects over a period of six weeks. In 2023, ANTHROPOZÄNTA celebrated its 10th anniversary in a similar form, but on a smaller scale, in Hof/Saale and will take place there again in fall 2024. The organizing team and artistic directors are Sophie Innmann and Daniel Vollmond, who both grew up in the region. 

With the exhibition, Innmann and Vollmond want to bring the exciting and eventful history of the city into focus and thus make a contribution to the cultural landscape of the region. Based on the research conducted during their residency, international artists develop new works that respond to the region and its socio-political, economic, and environmental histories. The exhibition invites local residents to view their home from a different, possibly new or unfamiliar, perspective and people from outside the region can get to know and appreciate the area in a completely new way.  Once again, the aim is to temporarily revitalize one of the many vacant buildings in the city centre with multimedia artistic works and events such as workshops, lectures and discussions.
